64 Senators Endorse SARAKI For Post Of Senate President?

Sixty four present senators-elect had in a meeting at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, Yesterday, endorse the former Kwara State governor, Senator Bukola Saraki, for the post of Senate president, ahead of the inauguration of the 8th Senate.
According to ThisDay, the senators who are backing Saraki had decided to throw their weight behind the former Kwara State governor, because they want a “Senate president who is a product of the members and not imposed by a godfather.”
It was learnt that those present at the meeting comprised 19 senators elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and 45 from the APC.
According to information gathered, senators present at the meeting include: Senators Muhammad Adamu Aliero, Danjuma Goje, Andy Uba, Mohammed Ali Ndume, Gilbert Nnaji, Dino Melaye and Isiaka Adeleke, who are new to the senate, the three senators representing Delta State and two from Edo State, among others.
The senators aimed at frustrating attempts by the APC to zone the Senate presidency to the North-East geopolitical zone, and efforts by the National Leader of the party, Bola Tinubu, to foist Senator Ahmed Lawan, his preferred candidate from Yobe State, as Senate President.

#Nollywood Movie Review of ‘Don’t Cry for Me’

Alero (Mary Lazarus) is an unfashionable young lady married to Temisan (Uti), an unfaithful and manipulative man, who moves in with Alero’s closest friend, Ese (Susan Peters) without his wife’s knowledge.  Alero is hired to assist Fred(Joseph Benjamin), who became blind, following an accident; but his nasty and insensitive girlfriend, Candy, (Yvonne Nelson) interferes with Alero’sjob; causing conflicts.Surprising twists and turns climax in a hilarious tale of true love that is both hilarious and remarkable.
Susan Peters and Uti are both comical with their delivery, making people laugh as they watch the film.  Benjamin plays his role as a blind man meticulously whilst Mary Lazarus’s acting skills are estimable.  The screenplay by UduakIsongOguamanam and Rita Onwurahis one, in which the ante is upped as the movie unfolds, heightening tension.  The dramatic elements – humour, suspense, sarcasm and irony – deployed by both writers climax in a story that is unpredictable and believable.
When they fall out, Temisan tells Ese, ‘Ah, you jazzed me’; as if he is just realizing that she cast a spell on him.  The way Uti conveys that message leaves everyone laughing heartily.
It is disappointing that Don’t Cry for Me was not well publicized, especially on the internet.  There are a few errors in the dialogue.  Ego tells Alero: ‘If I was there, this wouldn’t have happened’.  Alero responds, ‘There is no hard feelings.’  (There are no hard feelings).
Thandie says, ‘You know how much important this trip means to me’ instead of ‘You know how important this trip is to me.’  There is an exchange between Ese and Temisan, where Temisan asks, ‘Ese, what did you just say?’  Ese replies, ‘Nothing that needs any repeatation’.  There is no such word in the English Language.  Repetition is the right word.
How come it took Fred a long while to explore all the medical options available to him?  A wealthy man like him couldn’t have waited for that advice before seeking quality medical care whether in Nigeria or abroad.
People who ignore early warning signs and commit to toxic relationships always end up with their tails between their legs.  Anyone who feels manipulated in a relationship has no business staying in that relationship let me alone getting married to the traitor.
The self-sacrifice of taking care of sick people is a skill that care-givers and relatives must not dispense with.  When these sick people throw tantrums, owing to the frustration caused by confinement or being bed-ridden, the care-givers need to show empathy the way Alero exhibits understanding.
Don’t Cry for Me, a 1 hour forty-five minute flick, is a gripping story, which is excitingly told.

Woman Beheads Her 3-Month-Old Daughter On Kitchen Counter

A mentally ill mother, Deasia Watkins, has been arrested after she allegedly beheaded her 3-month-old daughter in Ohio.
The 20-year-old woman was however found incompetent to stand trial and was transferred to a treatment facility.

She was ordered to be evaluated and treated in a behavioral facility.
Watkins will be brought back to court in 6 months to reevaluate the decision.
According to officers who arrived at the home of Watkins’ aunt,  the girl was found headless on the kitchen counter.
The aunt was taking care of the child.
Police found Watkins in bed and she was covered in blood.

Nigeria Army Rescues 160 Hostages From Boko Haram’s Den

According to reports, Nigeria Army has released about 160 persons from Sambisa Forest in North East, Nigeria.
Nigeria Army spokesman, Sani Usman told AFP today, April 30, 2015 that“We are still trying to compute the actual number of those rescued. But tentatively there are about 60 women of various ages and around 100 children,”
According to Usman, one woman was killed in the fighting and eight other rescued hostages were injured. A soldier was killed while four others were wounded.

Boko Haram Members In Zimbabwe En Route South Africa?

Members of terrorist group, Boko Haram are in Zimbabwe on their way to South Africa, Zimbabwe’s national intelligence agency claims.
According to reports from ZimEye, a UK-based news outlet, the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) issued an intelligence report, warning that the militant group is in Zimbabwe en route to neighbouring South Africa.
The South African intelligence service has alerted police officers in Zimbabwe’s Matebeleland region about Boko Haram’s intentions to infiltrate the republic.
Another Zimbabwean media outlet, Harare24, claims “Officers were yesterday called for duty at around 9pm and are now temporarily stationed at selected police stations where they camp.”
While iHarare reports that police spokes persons have not responded to a request for clarification on the original ZimEye report, and official statements from the government of Zimbabwe regarding Boko Haram’s potential presence in Zimbabwe do not appear to exist.
Boko Haram reportedly released a video nearly two weeks ago urging South Africa to end the xenophobic attacks taking place within its borders.
In the clip which has not been verified as authentic, Boko Haram warned that it would execute all South Africans in Nigeria, Chad, Niger, and other surrounding countries if the government of South Africa failed to contain the situation.

Bayern Munich’s Arjen Robben suffered a season-ending injury after tearing a muscle during Bayern’s German Cup loss to Borrusia Dortmund.

LASU Students Plead With Management, Fashola To Re-Open School

The students of Lagos State University,LASU has pleaded with the school management and the Lagos State Governorto please re-open the university so that they can continue with their academic activities. The management of the institution had on March 25, 2015 shut down the school in a statement titled ‘Election recess,’ where the students and workers were asked to vacate the university premises. It however added that a resumption date will be announced later on.

But the students are saying it’s now a month and four days and they are suspecting the management are not willing to re-open the school despite that the elections are very much over.
The Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State UniversityStudents’ Union, Mr. Adebanjo Fatai, however lamented that the state government and the varsity management have treated the reopening of the institution with levity. Fatai said rather than reopening the institution for the commencement of academic activities, the institution management went online to publish an article, “Declared recess is still very much in force.”

He added, “The students’ Union ofLASUrespectfully assert that the online bulletin released by LASU Management shows how irrational and reckless the Management is towards the reopening of LASU.
“The love of LASUites is never in the heart of the Management as we can deduce that the management and the state government are not ready to re-open the school,” he said in a statement.

Chelsea have announced a series of high-profile friendlies in the USA over the summer as part of the International Champions Cup.
The Blues will trade tackles with New York Red Bulls in New Jersey on July 22, before travelling to Charlotte three days later to take on Paris Saint-Germain
Barcelona will be the final test on the Blues’ trip to North America when they meet at the FedEx Field in Washington DC on July 28.
Chelsea will then return to Stamford Bridge to face Fiorentina on August 5, three days before the scheduled start of the new Premier League season.

Chibok Girls? Nigerian Troops Find 200 Girls And 93 Women In Sambisa Forest

Nigerian troops have stormed the Sambisa Forest, a wide expanse of arid land North-east of Nigeria and rescued about 300 women and girls.

According to reports from the military headquarters, at least three major terrorists camps have been destroyed in the well coordinated attacks that include the destruction of the notorious Tokumbere camp in the Sambisa Forest.

While confirming the operation, the Director Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Chris Olukolade said he could not confirm the identity of the freed victims and their origin, neither could he state if any of them was from Chibok, Borno State, until after a thorough screening and proper investigations have been done.

He said: “I can only confirm the rescued this afternoon of 200 girls and 93 women in different camps in the forest. We are yet to determine their origin as all the freed persons are now being screened and profiled. Please don’t misquote me on their origin. We will provide more details later.”

Last April, over 200 girls from the Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok, were abducted by men suspected to be members of the Boko Haram Islamic sect in an operation which drew criticism from Nigerians and several notable members of the international community.
